The focus of the MBS program is graduate-level coursework in the biomedical sciences. The MBS program includes 15 credit hours of required courses 和 15 credit hours of 选修课程. These electives are your opportunity to direct your MBS degree program toward the specific scientific field you plan to enter. 课程是多种多样的 和 provides an excellent foundation for a healthcare career in human or veterinary medicine, or other biomedical sciences. MBS classes meet four days a week, leaving you one entire day off per week to gain 实践经验. You can volunteer for local clinics such as the Medical Center of the Rockies in Lovel和, or agencies that conduct research (such as the U.S. 部门 农业). Although research involvement is not required to complete the MBS. 学位, UNC professors are renowned teacher/scholars. You’ll have opportunities to participate in research related to cancer, stem cells, neurobiology 和 other subjects.

Austen graduated from the MBS program in May 2015, 和 was excited to have the opportunity to join the UNC teaching team as the instructor of Anatomy 和 Physiology 和 Cellular 生物学课程. “I enjoy everything about teaching, especially getting to know the 学生,”他说.

Creating Cancer Drugs from Snake Venoms
Stephen Mackessy博士.D. (生物科学)
Preliminary results from research conducted by 北科罗拉多大学 Professor Stephen Mackessy show promise in creating drugs from snake venoms to treat 和 limit the spread of breast, colon 和 skin cancers.
Mackessy recently earned a $50,480 bioscience grant from the Colorado Office of Economic 发展 & 国际 Trade to further test 和 analyze using purified compounds found in snake venoms in anticancer drugs.
